Domestic Partnerships

By definition it is an interpersonal relationship between two individuals who live together and share a common domestic life, but are not married. People in domestic partnerships receive benefits from California and Michigan, including but not limited to right of survivorship, hospital visitation, healthcare and others.
California

The Domestic Partners Registry

Domestic Partnerships can be entered into statewide and terminated via the California Secretary of State's office registry. Terminations can be handled amicably or in court, but in most cases the partnership will terminate after six months of the filing. Learn more with the FAQ.

Michigan

Only some local governments recognize the partnership and protect rights.
